Pioneer Announces Executive Appointment

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 2005--Pioneer Natural Resources Company (NYSE:PXD) today announced that Dennis R. Carlton has joined the Company as Vice President, Exploration for the Company's Western Division. Mr. Carlton served as Executive Vice President, Exploration and Chief Operating Officer for Evergreen Resources, Inc., a NYSE listed company involved in the exploration and development of unconventional resources. Since Pioneer's September 2004 merger with Evergreen, Mr. Carlton has been an advisor to the Company's Western Division. Prior to joining Evergreen in 1981, Mr. Carlton held various positions as an Exploration Geologist with Hamon Oil and Gas and Mobil Oil Corporation. Mr. Carlton received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Wichita State University.
